Here you can find the latest updates on the Sonoma Valley Unified School District's search for the next Superintendent. The information is presented in chronological order, showing the status of each item as either completed, in process, or to be determined.

Action: Presentation to the Board on August 14, 2025 on proposed search options and timelines, resulting in

  • direction to implement presented timeline for stakeholder conversations and input (from school leaders, district leaders, labor partner leaders, staff, parents and parent group leaders, student leaders, non-profit leaders, and broader community representatives) 
  • to prepare for a posting in September 

NOTE: The Board discussed interest in taking time with the process while remaining open to finding a highly qualified leader prior to July 1, 2026.

UPDATE: With the Board's commitment to a thoughtful and thorough Superintendent search process, a discussion item to review information and next steps with the Board of Trustees will be scheduled for its Regular Meeting on November 13, 2025.

UPDATE: At the November 13, 2025 meeting, Director Ugrin shared that the District has engaged a new team of consultants to oversee the superintendent search process; the Board directed staff to move foward with entering into a contract with the consultants.  The Board also directed Trustee Landry to continue serving as the lead for the process once a new Board President is selected in December.  


 

Action: A Special Board Meeting to be held on November 18, 2025 for the Board and the consultant team to review applicants and consider possible action to close the posting for the position.

Status: COMPLETED  November 18, 2025 Special Board Meeting

UPDATE: At the November 18, 2025 meeting, the Board gave direction to close the posting for Superintendent on December 5, 2025. The Board will hold a Special Board Meeting on January 10, 2026 to hold Superintendent interviews and hold a regular board meeting on January 27, 2026 to consider approval of the Superintendent appointment.  If no candidate is chosen to move foward after the January 10th inverviews, the position will be re-advertised.


 

Action: January 10, 2026 has been set as the date for the Board to conduct interviews at a Special Board Meeting.

Action: The Board will hold a regular board meeting on January 27, 2026 to consider approval of the Superintenct appointment.
