Inter-district Transfer Requests

Interdistrict Release Out Permits for the current school year are available and processed throughout the school year. A parent or legal guardian of a student residing in the Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) school boundary may request a transfer for that student to attend school in another district by obtaining an approved Interdistrict Attendance Permit application form. The Interdistrict Attendance Permit must be completed and submitted to the Educational Services Department located at the Sonoma Valley Unified School District, 17850 Railroad Avenue, Sonoma, CA 95476 in person, or emailed to tdeharomartinez@sonomaschools.org. Once the application has been processed, it is forwarded to the requested district for their approval. Questions regarding the status or processing of the Interdistrict Permit will need to be directed to the requested District.

Families are required to register their student at their school of residence in the event that the Interdistrict Attendance Permit cannot be granted.

Depending on the District you are requesting enrollment in, you may be required to renew the Permit each school year. It is important to know that an Interdistrict Attendance Permit can be revoked at any time during the school year for non-compliance

  • You can access the application online or pick up a paper copy at the District Office while the window is open.

  • Submission Location: Completed applications must be turned in to the District Office, located at 17850 Railroad Avenue.

  • Office Hours: Our hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

🏫  If your student is affected by the closure of Prestwood Elementary or a new boundary assignment for the 2026-2027 school year, and you would like them to attend a school other than their newly assigned home school, you have the option to apply through the Intradistrict Transfer Request process. This includes families who wish to have their student remain at their current school. The district will make every effort to accommodate all students who wish to remain at their current school.

❗️ Important Dates for 2026-2027

The Intra-District Transfer Request Window for the 2026-2027 school year will open on January 8, 2026 and will close on February 27, 2026.

Flowery Elementary School: Dual Immersion Enrollment

Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, Flowery Elementary School will be a school of choice within the Sonoma Valley Unified School District, no longer having its own attendance area. Families interested in having their children attend Flowery will be able to do so by applying through the Intra-District Transfer (IDT) application process. Families will be notified of enrollment in Flowery by the end of March/beginning of April.

👉 Students already in attendance in grades K-4 as of the 2025-26 school year at Flowery do not need to submit an IDT and will remain enrolled

K-1 Application Process

  1. Register your child in their home school (El Verano or Sassarini)
  2. Submit an application through the School of Choice/Intra-District Transfer (IDT) process any time during the window of Thursday, January 8, 2026- through Friday, February 27, 2026. Please note any IDTs received after February 27, 2026 will be considered as space allows.
  3. Indicate your child’s primary language (English or Spanish) on the application to ensure language balance in the classroom. The Dual Immersion Program is committed to educational and linguistic equity by maintaining a classroom balance of 50% native English speakers and 50% native Spanish speakers applications will be reviewed in two groups: Native English speakers and Native Spanish speakers.

⚠️ Important: TK at Flowery is NOT part of the Dual Immersion Program. If your child attends TK at Flowery and you wish for them to enroll in the Dual Immersion Program, you MUST submit a new Intra-District Transfer (IDT) application for Kindergarten admission

Due to the need to build literacy in two languages, students are typically not admitted to the Dual Immersion Program after the end of the first grade.
