Registration FAQs, Required Documents, and Eligibility

Welcome to the Sonoma Valley Unified School District. We are excited to support you in registering your child for school. Whether you are new to the district or returning, this page provides the key information, documents and FAQs to help you every step of the way. 

Getting Started

New Student Eligibility and School Assignment: All students are assigned to a school based on their home address. Students must be physically living with their parent/guardian within district boundaries at the time of registration.

 

School Boundary Map & Transfers

  • Find Your School: Use the School Boundary Map to find your child's assigned school.

  • Request a Transfer: Parents who wish for their child to attend a school other than their assigned school must follow the transfer process. Visit the District Transfer Information Page for details and forms.

 

AGE AND GRADE LEVEL ELIGIBILITY

🏫 Kindergarten Eligibility

  • 2025–26 School Year: Your child is eligible for Kindergarten if they turn 5 years old on or before September 1, 2025.

  • 2026–27 School Year: Your child is eligible for Kindergarten if they turn 5 years old on or before September 1, 2026.

 

🏫 Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Eligibility

  • 2025–26 School Year: Your child qualifies for TK if they turn 5 years old between September 2, 2025 and September 1, 2026.

  • 2026–27 School Year: Your child qualifies for TK if they turn 5 years old between September 2, 2026 and September 1, 2027.

Required Documents for New Student Registration

Please gather the following documents to upload during the online registration process. Note: All documents must be current.

  • Parent/Guardian Photo ID

  • Child's Birth Certificate or Passport

  • Immunization Record from your child's doctor

  • Custody/Guardianship Documentation (if applicable)

  • Oral Health Assessment Form 

  • Report of Health Examination for School Entry 

  • Affidavit of Residence (if applicable)

  • Two (2) Proofs of Home Address – one from each category listed below

👉 You must provide two separate, current proofs of address: one from Category 1 and one from Category 2. Both proofs must show the parent/guardian name and street address.

✅ Category 1: Utility bill such as PG&E, water, waste, cable, land phone or other utility bill

  • Proof must show the parent/guardian name and street address
  • All category 1 proof must be within 60 days of registration date
  • NOT ACCEPTED: Driver's licenses and cell phone bills 

 

✅ Category 2: Mortgage statement, homeowner's insurance, property tax bill, lease, or rental agreement (rental agreement must have your landlord's name and phone number)

  • Proof must show parent/guardian name and street address

Frequently Asked Questions

  • All registration will be completed online. Kindergarten registration nights are held at each elementary school.  Please contact the school site for more information.

  • Internet devices are available in the office at your child's school for parents to use for online registration.  Please visit your local school for assistance.  Your school office staff is also available to help with any questions you may have.

     

  • Yes, ALL SVUSD students (new AND returning) will need to be registered online by their parents.  This registration includes important information like emergency contacts, mailing addresses, etc.  Registration for the 2026-27 School year opens on January 8, 2026..

  • No, this process is for parents to update critical contact information and check other information they typically provide at the beginning of the school year.

  • Families interested in having their children attend Flowery will be able to do so by applying through the Intra-District Transfer (IDT) application process. More information and details can be found on our District Transfer Information page. District Tansfer Information

SVUSD Language Acquisition Programs:

Language acquisition programs include learning English as a second language and acquiring a different language. SVUSD has a variety of choices. 

  • K-8 Dual Immersion is offered at Flowery Elementary and continues from 6th- 8th grade at Altimira Middle School. Serves both English Learners and students learning Spanish. To enroll in the dual immersion program at Flowery, first enroll in your school of residence and then apply through the Intra-District Transfer Process.  For more infomration, go to our District Transfer Information Page.
  • TK-12 Structured English Immersion program is offered for all English Learners.
  • 9-12 Language acquisition programs include structured English immersion, English Learner Development, Spanish for Spanish speakers, Spanish I- Advanced Placement Spanish, and French I-IV.
