Preschool

  • SVUSD offers preschool for 3 and 4-year-olds at three of our elementary schools, El Verano, Prestwood and Sassarini.

    • El Verano offers two programs, an AM program from 8-11 am, and a PM program from 12-3 pm.
    • Sassarini offers a full-day program from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.
    • Prestwood preschool is run by North Bay Children's Center (NBCC). Starting soon, Prestwood preschool plans to offer a full-time, full-year program. The hours are 7:30 am -5 pm.

El Verano and Sassarini use a centralized enrollment process to place students of the highest need in our preschool programs.

Applications are available at the District Office at 17850 Railroad Avenue, Sonoma, or can be picked up at the school office. Submitting a preschool application does not guarantee your child a spot in preschool. Parents will first need to fill out an intake form and then, once qualified, they will need to fill out the preschool packet. Our team of eligibility specialists will review the completed preschool packet and reach out to let you know what programs they are tentatively being offered to your child.

Expanded Transitional Kindergarten

  • Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) expanded its Transitional Kindergarten (TK) programs in the 2022-2023 school year. TK offers children the opportunity to learn social skills, develop language and acquire the academic foundational skills necessary to succeed in school.

TK is taught by a credentialed teacher. The ratio of students to adults is approximately 12:1. This allows children to receive the extra attention and help they need to become capable, confident learners. The program is a full-day program and after-school care will be provided at no or low cost to families as needed.

For 2023-2024, students who turn 5 years old between September 2, 2023 and April 2, 2024 are eligible to enroll in transitional kindergarten.  Older students may enroll in kindergarten.  Three-year-old and younger four-year-old children may be eligible for our district’s preschool program.

    Cut off dates for 23-24:

Kinder: Students must be 5 by September 1, 2023

    TK: Students who turn 5 between September 2, 2023 - April 2, 2024
