Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Henion

I started my teaching career in the late 1980's as a computer teacher with a company called "Computer Tots."  I literally brought a computer around to schools and after school programs to work with young children on basic computer skills. At that time most people did not have a computer in their homes and it was quite a novelty!

I completed my teaching credential in 1991 through a pilot program at San Francisco State University called the Clinical Schools Program. The program has continued on to this day and provides students with coursework and field work throughout their credentialling process which focuses on urban and multi-cultural education. I also completed my CLAD (Cross Cultural Language and Academic Development) certificate work over the subsequent few years to deepen, enrich and enhance my work with second language learners.

My first few years in the public schools were spent in Richmond and Oakland substituting in a wide variety of settings until I found a home in Garfield School in Oakland. I taught kindergarten to mainly Southeast Asian students at Garfield for a decade. My move to the North Bay afforded me an opportunity to experience Waldorf education at Live Oak Charter for a year in Petaluma, a year at Flowery Elementary here in Sonoma, and to discover another landing ground at Sassarini where I've been since 2005.

I've had the privilege to teach kindergarten, first, third and now fifth grades. I believe I may have found my calling in 5th grade and plan to continue to build upon my skills and experience here with fifth graders!
