Dance

Course Description:

This elective is designed to provide a basic understanding of dance in a broad sense, covering many forms of dance from basic motor skills, jazz, hip hop, modern, tap, ballet, and international forms.  Time will also be spent on development of kinesthetic awareness, anatomy, fitness, music appreciation/awareness, creativity, self-expression, performance techniques, and the enjoyment of dance.  This class is a place where students can express themselves through dance and have fun!

 

Course Calendar:

This class is held during Zero Period every day from 7:45 am- 8:30am or During 5th period every other day.  Students will have 5 minutes to dress out both at the beginning and end of class.

 

Dance Attire:

Top- T-shirts, tank or sleeve style leotards, tank tops (no spaghetti straps or low cut)

Bottom- dance pants, sweat pants, PE shorts (no pajama pants, jeans or short shorts)

Feet- jazz shoes, jazz sneakers, tennis shoes,

foot paws, or barefoot

*Students are expected to dress out every day.  If they do not dress, 5 points will be deducted from their participation grade. 

 

Course Expectations:

  • You must dress every day, no matter what.
  • If you are ill, you must have a signed note from home including the date, reason for not participating, and signature of parent/guardian.  This note is good for one class only.  You will be excused from the activity, but you are still required to dress, if able.  Extended non-activity will require a doctor’s note and you will then be assigned alternate dance related assignments until you are able to participate.
  • Hair must be pulled away from your face at all times.
  • No jewelry may be worn unless they are small stud earrings (no bracelets, hoop earrings, necklaces, etc)
  • No gum, food, or drinks (water bottles are OK)
  • Try your personal best every class!

 

Course Assignments/ Grading:

Daily Participation= 5 points per class

Dance Reflections/Critiques= 5 points per assignment

Proper Dance Attire= 5 points per class. 

*In addition to the daily class points, students will be graded on choreography projects, performance participation, and quizzes (both written and demonstration).
