Mindful Monday- Walking Meditation

One great way to practice mindfulness is to do it while walking somewhere! This can be anywhere: your hallway, your yard, your street, etc. By breaking down the steps of such a simple and mindless task like walking, you are practicing mindfulness! The key is to focus on every step as you go. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Start by lifting your foot.
  2. Move your lifted foot a little bit in front of you.
  3. Place the heel of your lifted heel on the ground.
  4. Slowly let the rest of your foot touch the ground while shifting your body weight to that foot.
  5. Lift your back foot so that only your heel is lifted.
  6. Continue the process with that foot.
  7. Do 3 on each side.

Feel how the weight shifts in each foot and your body. Continue breathing normally as you do this process. Acknowledge your wandering thoughts and then refocus to your walking.
